வேலுப்பிள்ளை பிரபாகரன் எப்போது பிறந்தான்

என்று கேட்கிறார் ஆசிரியர்

ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் முன்பு என்றனர் பிள்ளைகள்

நூறு ஆண்டுகள் முன்பு என்றனர் பிள்ளைகள்

சென்ற ஆண்டு என்றனர் பிள்ளைகள்

எவருமே அறியார்

பிள்ளைகாள்

வேலுப்பிள்ளை பிரபாகரன் என்ன செய்தான்

என்று கேட்கிறார் ஆசிரியர்

ஒரு போரை வென்றான் என்றனர் பிள்ளைகள்

ஒரு போரைத் தோற்றான் என்றனர் பிள்ளைகள்

எவருமே அறியார்

எங்கள் கசாப்புக் கடைக்காரனிடம்

பிரபாகரன் என்றொரு நாய் இருந்தது

கசாப்புக் கடைக்காரர் அதை அடிப்பார்

ஒரு ஆண்டு முன்னர் அது பட்டினியாற் செத்தது

என்றான் சதீஷ்

இப்போது எல்லாப் பிள்ளைகளும்

பிரபாகரனுக்காக வருந்துகின்றனர்.

Napoleon Bonaparte do,

asks the teacher.

He won a battle, the children say.

He lost a battle, the children say.

Nobody knows.

At us the butcher had a dog

František says,

he was called Napoleon.

The butcher used to beat him, and the dog died

of hunger

last year.

And now all the children feel sorry

for Napoleon.
